Many of our customers inquire about medical cannabis prescriptions for their conditions such as cancer, chronic pain, depression, and more. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers that may interest you:
Q. Why should I consider a cannabis prescription?
A. Think of this as a prescription that caters to your condition. When you have this prescription, a doctor or nurse will guide you on the dosages of THC and/or CBD that may fit your ailment. If you’re already taking specific medications, a cannabis specialist can also determine if interactions will occur between cannabis and your current medications.
Q. Is it true that I can write off cannabis prescriptions on my tax returns?
A. Cannabis prescriptions are “medical expenses” as per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). But you need to have a valid prescription from an authorized medical practitioner and the prescription must be purchased from a licensed producer. According to the CRA, medical cannabis can be claimed on your taxes. Though when it comes to growing medical cannabis, there is one particular condition: “Where a patient has a registration certificate that allows them to legally produce a limited amount of cannabis for their own medical purposes, the cost of growing and producing cannabis for medical purposes (other than the cost of cannabis plant seeds and cannabis), such as pots, soil, nutrients, and lights, is not an eligible medical expense.”
Q. Can I pick up my prescription at Canna Relief?
A. No, it will be shipped to your mailing address. As per Health Canada legalities, medical cannabis prescriptions must only be accessed via mail. But for added convenience, you can likely order your prescription online through a licensed producer.
Q. Do I need a doctor to fill in my request for medical cannabis?
A. If your doctor has agreed to help you get a prescription, print out this form for your doctor to fill it in. It can then be faxed to 905-286-4450. Then you will be contacted by a cannabis consultant who will assist you with ordering medical cannabis from a licensed producer.
