Have you ever wondered why some people add CBD to their wellness regimes? Here are a few common reasons:
- May help alleviate anxiety. According to the book CBD & You, CBD has shown promise in reducing stress in patients with anxiety. In 2018, when reviewing records of patients who consumed CBD for three months, Dr. Scott Shannon, MD, of the University of Colorado found that “anxiety scores decreased within the first month in 57 of the 72 patients and remained low.” CBD was even studied in the 1980s; participants in one study who were given 160mg had a longer night’s sleep compared to those who had a placebo.
- May help reduce inflammation. CBD is known to be anti-inflammatory, which can help bring relief to chronic-pain sufferers. In fact, “Results of a study…published in the Free Radical Biology & Medicine Journal showed that cannabidiol can be helpful in reducing the impact of inflammation from oxidative stress,” confirms Earl Mindell, author of Healing with Hemp CBD Oil. This is good news for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, depression and Alzheimer’s, as inflammation and oxidative stress are related to those conditions!
- Sometimes it’s for our dogs, not us! Many pet owners have opted for hemp CBD to relieve joint pain in their dogs. CBD & You reported that a 2019 study from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine showed promising results in treating dogs with CBD: “when dogs with arthritic pain joint pain were treated with CBD rather than a placebo, they showed a decrease in pain and increase activity, with no discernible side effects.” However, the key here is to use hemp CBD; hemp contains less than 0.3 percent THC, whereas CBD from cannabis contains higher amounts of THC. Because their bodies have many cannabinoid receptors, dogs are sensitive to THC; this means that when they ingest too much THC, they can experience poisoning with vomiting, lethargy, dizziness and more.
