If you haven’t been successful in alleviating menstrual cramps, you’re not alone!
According to the Journal of Pain Research, “…at least one in four women experiences distressing menstrual pain characterized by a need for medication and absenteeism from study or social activities.”
Last year, a study was conducted by the licensed producer Canopy Growth and James Madison University in Virginia on how CBD effects menstrual-related symptoms. The following are the results from the study formally announced in a media statement:
Over the course of six months, 40 participants who experienced moderate to severe menstrual-related symptoms were randomized to receive 160mg or 320mg of CBD, in divided doses twice daily for 5 days each month beginning the first day they experienced symptoms. Results showed significantly reduced menstrual-related symptoms over the 6 months relative to a one-month baseline, and the higher dose was also effective in significantly reducing irritability and stress over the same period.”
CBD may be an alternative pain reliever for menstrual cramps because there’s a chance it won’t trigger unwanted side effects like NSAIDS (i.e. ibuprofen, acetaminophen). In fact, there are a wide variety of ways to take CBD! Here’s how to take it when “Aunt Flo” arrives:
- Rub on a topical on your lower abdomen or pelvic area
- Take a sublingual oil
- Eat a hemp CBD edible (ie. gummy, chocolate, candy, etc.)
- Drink an infused tea
- Try a hemp CBD bath product
