So what else should we look out for in the world of hemp and cannabis? Enter CBN, another cannabinoid found in both hemp and cannabis plants.
Here are some things to know about CBN:
- CBN is also called cannabinol. Like CBD and CBG, CBN also interacts with the endocannabinoid system.
- Researchers are trying to understand how CBN works in the body. In a 2019 study on rats, it was shown that “both CBD and CBN were able to reduce myofascial pain in rats. A combination of CBN and CBD was even more effective than either alone,” explains Healthline. The study concluded that fibromyalgia-related pain may possibly lessen with CBD and CBN.
- CBN may have anti-inflammatory properties. According to Leafly, in a study on rheumatoid arthritis, research on rats showed that CBN may help with alleviating arthritis. But more research is necessary.
- Another study on rodents implied that CBN may be suitable as a neuroprotectant. In particular, CBN may assist with delaying the onslaught of ALS, which is a neurodegenerative condition.
- According to Medical News Today, “Those who prefer high-CBN cannabis may do so because the compound promotes a more sedate feeling, which may help them sleep.” So if you need help with sleep, our educators recommend a full-spectrum hemp oil, which already contains some CBN. Or what you can read the labels to see if CBN is listed on your hemp or cannabis labels, or find a specialized product that combines CBN with another cannabinoid (i.e. THC or CBD).
